.
Speaking during discussions with diplomats from the United States and the United Kingdom, Mr. Mahama said, “The energy sector, in particular, requires urgent attention. We hope to work closely to resolve the issues in that space.”
He said highlighting energy reforms was a key priority for his incoming administration amidst Ghana’s broader economic and financial challenges.
Mr. Mahama gave a brief of the meeting with the two on Wednesday [Dec 18] in a post on Facebook and indicated the diplomats delivered messages of congratulations on behalf of their governments.
The meetings, he said, underscored the importance of maintaining and strengthening Ghana’s longstanding partnerships with these allies.
The Wednesday meeting followed a prior meeting with the U.S. Ambassador, during which Mr. Mahama discussed strategies for deepening bilateral cooperation to address Ghana’s recovery efforts.
Both the United States and the United Kingdom have historically been strong allies of Ghana, with significant collaboration in areas such as trade, energy, and development aid.
Mr. Mahama at the meeting signalled his administration’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to help stabilise the economy and deliver sustainable reforms.
