NPP, NDC final rallies: Police announce road diversion to avoid clash of supporter

.
The National Election Security Task Force (NESTF) has announced a road diversion plan for the Legon-Madina area in the capital as the two major political parties move to crown their campaigns with rallies at venues in close proximity.

The police also hinted of adequate security but cautioned party leaders to put their supporters in check.

This is the second time in less than a week that the NESTF led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare has engaged political parties. On Tuesday, three issues bordering on election security was tabled before the political parties for discussion.

This covered the de-escalation strategy adopted by the task force for the elections. Other issues discussed centered on the use of ‘machomen’ by political parties to cause mayhem at polling centers and the clothing of party foot soldiers with state security uniforms.

On Wednesday December 4, 2024, the task force engaged representatives of the two major political parties- NPP and NDC to address issues related to road diversions and security arrangements as the two parties move to hold their final rallies.

This was after the IGP, Dr George Akufo Dampare and some members of the Police Management Board (PoMaB) conducted recce at the two grounds booked by the NPP and NDC for their gatherings.

The PoMaB members later met the representatives of the two political parties in a closed-door briefing session.

Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi who engaged the media said enough provision has been made to prevent any hitches on the day.

As a result, the parties have agreed to speak to their supporters to abide by all regulations.

She indicated that
As part of the arrangement, the road diversion will go as follows; NPP supporters who will be coming from Adenta direction towards Legon, they will take left at the Ritz Junction, move towards Aviation and appear on the UPSA road or Okponglo area. That will let them access the University of Ghana sports park without having to go through Madina and the Zongo Junction areas.

In the case of NDC, their supporters coming from Tetteh-Quarshie, to avoid them going through Legon, will take right at Shiashie towards the UPSA and take left to hit the main Madina-Accra road.
