The Parliament of Ghana has provided further insight into an incident within the premises of the legislative House, which resulted in damage to five vehicles.

In a statement signed by David Sabastian Damoah, the Director of Media Relations, it was explained that two individuals, identified as Wisdom Ahlie and Christopher Okyere, were apprehended after they were spotted vandalizing parked vehicles within the precincts of Parliament.

“At about 10:30 a.m. on December 18, 2024, two suspected individuals, namely Wisdom Ahlie (42 years) and Christopher Okyere (33 years), were apprehended after they were seen vandalizing the windscreens and side glasses of parked vehicles on the precincts of Parliament.

“The five vehicles involved included two Toyota Land Cruisers belonging to Members of Parliamentary Service. An axe head was used to commit the crime. The motives behind their actions are unknown,” the statement read.

While no casualties were recorded, the statement said the individuals were swiftly arrested and have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation into the incident.

“The perpetrators were swiftly arrested by the personnel of the Parliamentary Protection Unit (Ghana Police Service) to carry out further investigations into the incident.

“Parliament would like to assure the public that there were no casualties, although the extent of the damage is yet to be determined,” the statement said.

Earlier on Wednesday, videos surfaced on the internet showing a man being apprehended by some security officers within the compound of Parliament.

According to reports gathered by GhanaWeb, the man, who claimed he was ‘sent by God,’ concealed an axe under his jalabia—a long white garment mostly worn by Arabs or Muslims.

Eyewitnesses indicated that he posed as a preacher as he entered the walls ofParliament and, after gaining access, started smashing the vehicles with the axe.

He managed to damage at least four vehicles, reportedly belonging to some legislators, before being apprehended.

Security officials at the Parliament House were forced to fire warning shots before arresting the man, some reports said.

Another man, believed to be an accomplice, was also arrested.
