A/R: Devastating fire displaces residents in Nima-Moke

.
A fire outbreak has displaced scores of residents at Nima-Moke, a slum located within the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The inferno, which broke out around 4:30 pm on Friday, destroyed over 50 wooden makeshift structures that served as homes for the affected individuals.

The fire was fuelled by the presence of combustible materials in the area, which is predominantly occupied by migrants from Northern Ghana seeking better opportunities in the south.

Many victims were at the market or at work when the fire erupted making it difficult for them to save their belongings.

The incident has left numerous families including children, homeless and uncertain about where to find shelter.

Eyewitnesses said that the fire started in one of the structures and spread rapidly, partly due to delays in the response of the Ghana National Fire Service.

This is not the first time the slum has faced such devastation.

A similar fire in 2020 displaced many residents, destroying valuables and other belongings.
