Damongo: NDC youth locks community mechanized borehole

.
The Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Damongo have reportedly locked the only community mechanized borehole serving the Hangaline Community.

The action, led by some NDC executives and youth, has sparked concerns among residents, as the borehole is the sole source of potable water for the community.

Speaking to Malik Gazari, Savannah Regional Correspondent for Channel One TV, Kumatey Godwin, the Assemblymember for the Hangaline Electoral Area, recounted that the borehole, which had been non-functional due to a long-standing electricity debt, was restored through efforts by the Damongo Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor.

However, Iddrisu Dolina Sakura, the NDC’s youth chairman, defended the action, stating that he sought a smooth transition of the borehole’s management to the NDC. He cited a similar move in 2016, when the NDC handed over power to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The development has generated debate in the community over the control of essential resources and the implications for residents’ access to water.

He assured me that the Borehole will be opened on Monday, January 12, 2025, to serve the residents as mutual understanding exists between both sides.
