GNFS warns against unauthorised fees for attestation letters
.
The letter of attestation is an official document that confirms a fire incident and provides details of the damage caused to the affected individual(s) property.
This announcement follows reports that some victims were asked to pay for these letters at the Accra City Fire Station.
In a statement issued on January 9, 2025, by the Head of Public Relations, Divisional Officer II Desmond E. Ackah, it was emphasised that such practices are unauthorised.
He urged the public not to make any payments for attestation letters.
"We assure all affected victims that the matter is being taken seriously. A thorough investigation is underway, and any officer found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the GNFS's disciplinary code", he stated.
DO II Ackah reiterated the Service’s commitment to serving the public with integrity and professionalism.
He urged members of the public to report to the GNFS Headquarters or Korle-Bu with any information regarding the matter so that appropriate actions can be taken.
"The Service appreciates the public's cooperation and understanding as we work to uphold the highest standards of accountability and service delivery", he added.
