Gbevlo-Lartey, Totobi Quakyi orchestrated post-election violence – Majority
.
The Majority claims that numerous violent incidents have occurred since the 2024 General Elections, including attacks on government appointees and acts of thuggery against state institutions, allegedly carried out by some NDC members.
This accusation comes just a day after President-elect John Mahama named Quakyi and Gbevlo-Lartey to an interim team to oversee national security matters pending the appointment of permanent officials.
In a press briefing, Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei expressed concern over the situation, warning that the ongoing violence poses a serious threat to the safety and security of Ghanaians.
“We have received reliable intelligence indicating that acts of violence and thugs are being orchestrated by certain elements of the NDC leadership. My Totobi Quakyi and Col (Rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey are the key leaders who are behind these NDC thugs and inspiring them to violence against innocent Ghanaians. Even more troubling is information suggesting that they intensify these violent acts immediately after the swearing of the president-elect, John Dramani Mahama.
“This raises serious national security concerns about the safety of public officials and the citizenry as a whole. We, therefore, call on all Ghanaians to be vigilant and to immediately report any suspicion of violent activity to the police and other relevant security agencies,” she said.
The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on his part, urged the President-Elect, John Mahama, to exhibit leadership by ending the post-election violence to avert any unforeseen circumstances.
“They claim they don’t know anything about them, but they were chanting ‘3y3 Zu, 3y3 Za’ and they were responding to them.
“Today they are saying that all those hooligans are people coming from the moon. They don’t know them. You see, even before they are taking over, we’ve heard of the plans and all the actions and all that they are doing.
“We are waiting and we hope that the president will show leadership. We hope the president will show leadership. If they do not show leadership, we will advise ourselves and as the law permits, we will resort to any means, legal, permissible within our four walls of our laws to ensure that we’re not taken for granted,” he stated.
