In a conversation on the latest episode of the Honest Brunch podcast, Nedu Wazobia and his panellists delved into the complexities of dating older men, discussing the various advantages and challenges that arise in relationships with significant age differences.

The discussion opened with one of the panellists enthusiastically sharing her experience with older men. “I love dating older men,” she said with a smile. “I feel so youthful in their presence. With men my age, it’s different.

We argue a lot, and there’s not as much maturity in the relationship.” For her, the appeal of an older partner lies in the stability and maturity they offer, which contrasts with the often tumultuous dynamics she experiences with peers.

However, Kamara, another panellist, raised a thought-provoking point. “Why would a 40-year-old man be interested in an 18 or 20-year-old woman?

“What does she offer that he can’t find in women closer to his own age?” she questioned.

“For me, dating someone so much older would mean missing out on important life experiences—things I should go through at my own pace.”

Her perspective challenged the notion that older men are always the more appealing option. Kamara, who is 21, emphasized that while older men may offer stability, the emotional and developmental stages of life should not be rushed.

“I’m still figuring myself out, and I don’t want to skip over my own personal growth by being in a relationship that doesn’t allow me to experience life as I should,” she explained.

Another panellist disagreed, offering a different view on older men. “It’s not just about age,” they pointed out.

“A 40-year-old man can still connect deeply with a 20-year-old woman. It’s about personality, shared values, and common interests. Age is just a number.”

Despite the counterpoint, Kamara remained firm in her opinion. “I just don’t see the attraction,” she added. “I think it’s fine if it works for others, but for me, dating someone that much older doesn’t feel right.”
