’It will be a bad idea to appoint me as an ambassador; I lack the diplomatic acumen’ - Mornah

.
Former Chairman of the People's National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has stated that it would be a wrong decision for President John Mahama to appoint him as Ghana's ambassador to another country.

His comment follows President Mahama's appointment of Nana Yaa Jantuah, a leading member of the Convention People's Party, as a Presidential staffer.

In an interview with Joy News, Bernard Mornah, who has collaborated with the NDC while in opposition organizing demonstrations, noted that President Mahama is under no obligation to appoint a minister from the PNC.

He added that if an appointment as ambassador were offered to him, he would turn it down, stating that he lacks the diplomatic acumen for the role. He emphasized that he is someone who speaks his mind on issues and does not have the temperament for the job.

"It would be a bad idea to appoint me as an ambassador; I am not sure I have the diplomatic skills. I speak my mind on issues, so it would be a mistake to appoint Bernard Mornah as an ambassador. If I were to go to any country and see them doing something I believe is not in the best interest of the people of Ghana or Africa, I would speak out, and it could cause a diplomatic row. For example, I am strongly opposed to ECOWAS approving a roadmap for the Association of Sahel countries—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—to exit ECOWAS. I think that doesn’t sit well with me."

He continued, "Africa must be seen working to unite its front, not dividing it. If you have leaders like Faure Gnassingbé continuously leading their people, claiming they are democratic while excluding countries that have freed themselves from foreign control, it doesn’t make sense. If you appoint me as an ambassador, I might speak against the continued inclusion of Faure Gnassingbé and Togo in ECOWAS, especially while Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso are excluded."
