In a series of social media posts, Onasis Kobby, who is the former Deputy Youth Organizer of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, urged the party’s grassroots to trust President John Mahama and the team to make the right appointments.
He reminded the party of the unity and peace that formed the foundation of their historic victory in the 2024 elections and urged them not to allow the appointment process to bring about cracks in the team.
Onasis Kobby recounted a personal story of sacrifice and dedication during the campaign period that almost cost him his life.
He reminded the party and its supporters of their primary duty, which is ensuring that President John Mahama delivers a successful second term.
“Comrades, remember it was 8 solid years of hard work, suffering, and sacrifices. Some lost their lives and others are living with deformities.
“I still battle with the flashes of this incident. It was horrible, but God came through for myself, Opoku Patrick, Sawadogo Mahmoud, Dede Sianorkie, Linda, and NaYaz RiVera. May we help President Mahama to succeed regardless of our challenges,” he posted on Facebook.
His comments come amid protests within the party over some appointments, including that of Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as Acting Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Scores of NDC supporters took to social media to protest the appointment of Yirenkyi Fianko, who they allege played a role in the closure of pro-NDC stations Radio Gold and Radio XYZ.
These closures of the stations, leading to loss of jobs, illness, and deaths, justified on grounds of expired licenses, remain a sore point for NDC supporters, as the stations were seen as pro-NDC platforms.
Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, a Reverend of the Methodist Church, is accused of not just leading the operations, but also going on radio and TV stations to justify the closure and threatening to allocate the 90.5 frequency of Radio Gold to another company.
