The quiet farming community of Nyanoa in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region has been thrown into mourning following the death of a 45-year-old farmer, Azumah Zakari.

According to police reports, Azumah met his untimely death on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after a heated confrontation over a piece of land turned bloody.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the farmer was allegedly shot in the left leg by two suspected land guards identified as Kobby Asaa and his accomplice, known only as Red. The duo, who are well-known in the area for their violent land guard activities, are currently on the run.

Tragically, Azumah bled profusely after the shooting, and due to the unavailability of immediate transportation to convey him from his farm to the nearest health facility, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Asamankese Government Hospital.

The suspects, believed to have close ties with the Chief of Nyanoa, Osabarima Opoku Okyere II, have a reputation in the area for intimidating and harassing residents over land disputes.

Police from both the Nyanoa and Asamankese Divisional Command have since visited the crime scene to begin investigations. The police are calling on residents and the general public to volunteer credible information that could lead to the arrest of Kobby Asaa and Red.

Meanwhile, the grieving widow of the late farmer, Adwoa Augustina, has appealed passionately to authorities for justice.

“My husband went to the farm to work and never returned alive. I am begging the police to ensure that those who killed him are arrested and punished,” she said tearfully in an interview.

The body of Azumah Zakari has since been deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy as investigations continue.
