Effia Nkwanta: Akufo-Addo’s damaged statue repaired
.
Unveiled on November 6 to honour the president, the statue had a noticeable gaping hole at the back of one of its legs.
While the exact cause of the damage remains unclear, there has been speculation that it was the result of deliberate vandalism, following earlier threats from some residents to remove the statue. Others believe it could have been a structural defect.
Many residents of Sekondi have called for the statue’s removal, citing unfinished projects in the region, such as the Takoradi Market Circle, the PTC roundabout three-tier interchange, and the dualization of the Sekondi-Takoradi road.
A follow-up by Channel One TV’s Western Regional Correspondent, Akwasi Agyei Annim, on Thursday, December 19, confirmed that the damaged portion has now been fixed.
