The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Theophilus Tetteh Chaie has circulated a letter directing all NDC constituency chair persons to submit nominees for national level appointments in the John Dramani Mahama led government beginning January 7, 2025.

However, following the leakage of the said letter to the media and on social media, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore in a press statement dated December 25, 2024 has disassociated himself from the said directive.

He has indicated that no meeting has been held for such a directive.

He described it as a unilateral decision by the Regional Secretary that lacked proper consultation with party structures.

“I am not aware of such a notification from the apex level of the party. Neither has the regional executive committee been consulted nor approved such a directive,” Mr Ashie Moore stated.

He went on to call for party members to disregard the letter, emphasising, “This is indeed a sole decision of the Regional Secretary without any recourse to laid-down party structures.”

The Regional Secretary’s letter, dated December 24, 2024, surfaced online and directed constituency chair persons to submit nominees for key national appointments.

The letter called for nominees to fill ministerial, deputy ministerial, ambassadorial, and other positions in the incoming John Dramani Mahama administration.

Constituencies were instructed to submit details of qualified candidates, including their areas of interest, by December 30, 2024.

While Mr Tetteh Chaie has not denied issuing the letter, which has been circulated online, there are indications it may have been leaked.

Countering the directive in a press statement dated December 25, 2024, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore distanced himself from the directive.

He described it as a unilateral decision by the Regional Secretary that lacked proper consultation with party structures.

The Regional Chairman further stressed that the President-elect’s transition team is focused on delivering Mahama’s top policy priorities within the first 120 days of his administration and ensuring a smooth transition ahead of his swearing-in on January 7, 2025.
