I’ve not forfeited my NDC membership – Afram Plains North MP-elect

.
The Member of Parliament-elect for Afram Plains North, Worlase Kpeli, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite contesting the December 7 general elections as an independent candidate.

Kpeli highlighted his deep-rooted ties to the NDC, explaining that his decision to run independently stemmed from a call for change within the constituency.

“I am a traditional NDC member by association. It was a call for reset in the constituency…I have been a member of the NDC as soon as I attained 18 years and I contested the primaries in 2016, in 2020, and the last year 2023,” Kpeli stated in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM on Monday, December 23, 2024.

When asked if he would align with the NDC in the ninth parliament, Kpeli noted that the decision would require extensive consultations with his constituents to ensure their interests are well-represented.

“There are a lot of things that go into this decision, there are consultations. There are other decisions that one must go through to come to a conclusion. I must speak to my people, my constituents who voted me into power and they will need to have a say in this,” he said.

Kpeli also pointed out that the NDC’s constitution does not explicitly prohibit members from running as independent candidates.

“Looking through the NDC’s constitution, there is no express clause that goes against me going independent. It is just by convention that we all say it, but expressly, I don’t see any binding clause that forfeits my membership in the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he noted.
