Candidates are crisscrossing their constituencies and performing unimaginable stunts, ostensibly to woo voters—stunts that many insist are necessitated by the demands of the time.
Some constituents have had their hair braided, clothes washed, and meals cooked by either their “revered” Member of Parliament or an opponent.
These actions have sparked mixed reactions—some greeted with scoffs and jeers, while others have left beneficiaries in awe.
The latest candidate to pull off such a jaw-dropping stunt is the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah.
A section of his constituents was left “scratching their heads” when he decided to act as a driver’s mate on a commercial bus—trotro—in Kwesimintsim.
In a video that has since gone viral and gained over a thousand views in just a few hours, Dr. Prince Armah is seen clinging to a trotro loaded from Whindo, passing through Assakae to the Kwesimintsim lorry station, calling out for passengers.
Unlike a real mate, he was accompanied by bodyguards and party associates who were buzzing around him.
Some onlookers appeared unfazed and didn’t give him a second glance, declaring, “This will not change anything.”
I don’t know where he got the inspiration to do this, but it’s not working for me. Is this meant to portray him as downtrodden to attract votes or what? Well, I’ve already made my decisionscoffed an orange seller.
Diana Yankey was equally unimpressed and suggested that he adopts a more “believable” strategy.
He is an astute teacher, and I would advise him to devote some time to teaching in selected schools. But I think his reasoning is that many people wouldn’t see him there. Therefore, he believes this will make him more visible. I’m sorry…
On the other hand, Kofi Mensah, who had just alighted from the trotro, held a different view. He said,
I think this is one of the best ways to connect with the electorateand believed the MP had achieved his goal.
What he did is playful and evokes something different in me. If I hadn’t already decided who to vote for, this act of his would have drawn me to himhe said.
