NPP constitution is flawed - Asante Akim North MP criticises leadership selection criteria

.
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Kwame Andy Appiah Kubi, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s constitution, labeling it outdated and flawed in its process for selecting party leaders.

Appiah Kubi’s statements come on the back of a recent press conference held by the NPP’s National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, who acknowledged the party’s defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and also announced plans for a post-election review to assess the factors behind the defeat.

“There is no doubt that the outcome of the elections is not what we wished for. The party will set up an election review committee in January 2025 to engage stakeholders and analyse the factors leading to our defeat, paving the way for reforms,” Ntim stated.

However, Appiah Kubi believes that the party's constitution itself needs reform.

“The NPP’s constitution is so flawed in selecting leaders within the party. A constitutional review is long overdue,” Appiah Kubi said.

He further argued that the current system, which often involves monetary influence, undermines the party’s ability to select qualified and competent leaders.

“Monetization in the NPP will not bring out the best candidates for leadership roles,” he added.
