You are a hypocrite - Nana Akomea takes on Mahama over comment on anti-LGBTQ bill in BBC interview

.

Nana Akomea, the Vice Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Campaign Team for the 2024 elections, has taken a swing at John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, over what he perceives to be a lack of clarity shown by him in his interview with the BBC.

Nana Akomea holds that John Mahama exhibited a lack of candour and candidness on the topic of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, in the interview.

He observed that while Mahama has been emphatic in his statements on the anti-LGBTQ bill in the Ghanaian media, he showed no such clarity in his interview with the BBC.

The Managing Director of the State Transport Company also stated that Mahama has consistently been dishonest about issues of national concern.

In his interview with the BBC, he was quizzed on if he would assent to the anti-LGBTQ bill if he was the President, and he said it would depend on the content of the bill. Mahama is a hypocrite.

When speaking to the international media, he says different things and says different things when speaking to the Ghanaian media. It made me realize that between him and Bawumia, Mahama lacks integrity. I've gone through his records and realized that he lacks integrity
he said on Peace FM.

In his interview with the BBC, John Mahama said that he would sign the bill if the content of the bill is not in dissonance with the constitution of Ghana.

According to him, although LGBTQ+ activities do not align with the country’s culture, values, and religious beliefs, there must be thorough scrutiny of what the bill proposes and aims to enforce before it is signed into law.

He proposed that if, after scrutiny, he finds anything wrong with the bill, it must be sent back to Parliament for reassessment.

It is not an anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, but a Family Values Bill. It was approved unanimously by our Parliament. You see, it’s against our culture, I mean African culture, our religious faith - Muslim and Christian and all that.

But I think we must look at the bill, and the president must indicate what he finds wrong with the bill and send the bill back to Parliament or alternatively, he must send it to the Council of State and get the Council of State’s advice
he stated.
