Atobease: Police commence investigation into death of three-year-old boy

.
The police have launched an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy in Atobease, a farming community in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The three-year-old boy, who went missing on January 16, 2025, was found dead in an illegal mining ‘galamsey’ pit a few meters from the community at dawn on Friday, January 17.

The tragic discovery was made following an intense search by family members, community residents, and the police.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Citi News, the Assembly Member for the Atobease Electoral Area, Samuel Yeboah, expressed doubts that the child had drowned, raising suspicions of foul play.

He, however, stated that the police have commenced investigations to determine the actual cause of death.

Mr. Yeboah also revealed that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the area. He assured authorities are taking steps to reclaim and cover all abandoned mining pits to prevent further tragedies.

The child’s body has since been deposited at the morgue as investigations continue.
