Ho Central NDC office torched
.
The perpetrators broke into the office, threw out furniture, office equipment, documents, and other items, and set them ablaze using lorry tyres in the forecourt of the office.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. and caused fear and alarm among motorists and residents along the road between the Ho Central Market and Ho-Dome.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived promptly at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.
Some eyewitnesses told Graphic Online's Alberto Mario Noretti that the people responsible for the arson were masked.
Some members of the NDC, who rushed to the scene, attributed the attack to disgruntled party members allegedly upset that President John Dramani Mahama had not appointed anyone from the constituency to a ministerial position.
Police investigations into the incident are currently underway.
Meanwhile, the Regional Youth Wing of the NDC has condemned the act of arson and urged party supporters to remain calm and allow the appointment process to proceed without interference.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, and signed by the Regional Youth Organiser, Mathias Alagbo Kabila, the group emphasised that appointments are an ongoing process.
“We are confident President Mahama acknowledges the Volta Region’s significance to the NDC’s electoral success and will reward local Voltarians accordingly,” the statement read.
It further stressed that such irresponsible actions are inconsistent with the values of the NDC and would not be tolerated.
