Mahama arrives in Kenya, spotted in Ghana’s presidential jet

.
President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has arrived in Kenya for a high-level African Union (AU) meeting on institutional reforms.

Hosted by Kenya’s President William Ruto, the retreat, taking place from January 27-28, will focus on AU reforms, including sustainable financing and restructuring its operations.

President Mahama will share his leadership insights and highlight Ghana’s commitment to the AU agenda.

Unlike his previous visits to other African countries where he was spotted using his brother’s private jet, the president used Ghana’s presidential jet.

Ghanaians raised concerns about his travels in his brother’s jet.

However, the Acting Spokesperson for the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, indicated that it came at no cost, adding that there was a need to use his brother’s private jet because the Air Force was yet to provide a report on the state of the presidential jet.

“I am sure you are aware that President Mahama is the Commander of the Ghana Armed Forces. Since he became president, he has requested a detailed report of the state of the communications squadron,” he stated.

He explained further that “The Communications Squadron is the unit of the Ghana Air Force that handles the presidential aircraft. So, he has requested that they give him a brief on the state of the unit itself and the planes under their control and that report is yet to filter in, so, pending the receipt of that report, to determine the state of the state aircraft, the president has been travelling the same way he has been travelling in opposition.”

This position expressed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu was countered by the Member of Parliament of Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq, who disclosed that per reports from the transition team, the presidential jet was serviceable and could be used by the president for his travels.
