Acting Spokesperson to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has explained that the President is travelling in his brother’s jet because the Ghana Airforce is yet to provide him with reports on the state of the presidential jet and other flights under their mandate.

According to him, immediately the president is provided with a briefing on the state of the presidential jet; among other things, he will be using those for his official travels.

Ofosu Kwakye was speaking to comments on social media questioning the President’s decision to travel in a private jet after promising Ghanaians to protect the public purse.

He said while speaking in an interview on Accra-based TV3 “I am sure you are aware that President Mahama is the Commander of the Ghana Armed Forces. Since he became president, he has requested a detailed report of the state of the communications squadron”.

He explained further that “The Communications Squadron is the unit of the Ghana Air Force that handles the presidential aircraft. So he has requested that they give him a brief on the state of the unit itself and the planes under their control and that report is yet to filter in, so pending the receipt of that report, to determine the state of the state aircraft, the president has been travelling the same way he has been travelling in opposition”.
