Mahama directs redistribution of food for drought victims to SHSs
.
This move, according to the President, is aimed at addressing the ongoing food shortages in secondary institutions.
Speaking during the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at UPSA in Accra on Sunday, the President indicated that the redistribution of the food is expected to salvage the situation and ensure that students continue to receive proper meals during their studies.
“I have asked the Chief of Staff to work with the GES to allocate and evacuate food that is currently in warehouses in Tema.
“This food was imported by the outgone government in response to the drought that occurred last year but in this emergency, we need to use some of that food to feed our students,” he stated.
The food in question, stored in warehouses in Tema, was initially intended to support drought-stricken areas but will now be repurposed to address the pressing needs of students affected by the ongoing shortages.
This move comes amidst growing concerns over the sustainability of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program and its associated feeding challenges.
