Eugene Boakye Antwi, the former Member of Parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, believes that the New Patriotic Party will have to relook at the powers of the flagbearer of their political party going forward.

He is of the view that the party cannot just choose a leader who will repeat what has happened in the past that led to their defeat in the 2024 elections.

To him, the party should ensure that the flagbearer of the political party understands that it is a partnership between the party and the government so that they can be called to order when the need be.

“We cannot go and pick a flagbearer who will repeat the mistakes of the past. If not, we will continue to fail. There must be a proper forum for the president and the party, the flagbearer and the party to communicate,” he said.

We have a national chairman, general secretary, and national organizer, but what were their roles in the campaign? Is it not the interest of the political party that these executives represent? So what were their roles in the campaign?

When we choose a flagbearer, he forms his campaign team and forgets about the executives, which should not be the case. In this country, when someone is elected as president, you cannot talk to them or about them. They give jobs, among others so no one wants to offend them and that is bad.
