This protest followed a statement by the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, who emphasised the importance of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, ensuring the security of the Electoral Commission (EC) to facilitate the re-collation of results.
"The IGP, who is the head of the Election Security Task Force, is able to provide sufficient security to enable the EC to undertake its constitutional mandate. Mr. Speaker, we raise this as a serious democratic matter because it is a blot on our otherwise peaceful democracy. This is supposed to be a 276-member chamber. We are 275. The people of Ablekuma North need representation," he stated.
