Prioritise accountability – Bagbin advises first-time MPs

.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to exercise caution and responsibility in their conduct while representing their constituents throughout their four-year term.

During his address at the dissolution of the 8th Parliament, Bagbin acknowledged MPs who were unable to retain their seats in the 2024 general elections, offering commendations to those who successfully secured re-election.

The inauguration of the new MPs is scheduled for January 7, 2025, at midnight in Parliament.

Speaking to the incoming MPs, Bagbin emphasized the importance of accountability, noting, “I hope first-time members, who may be watching today, will take heed and remember that the day of accountability to the people is only four short years away, starting January 7, 2025.”

He also extended his well wishes to MPs who retained their seats, adding, “Some of you answered this call and have been rewarded with another term in Parliament following the just-ended elections.”

“To those of you who have been privileged to return to the 9th Parliament, I repeat the prayer I said 4 years ago. May your career be as long and as progressively as mine has been.”
