This era of neglect will end under this administration – Mahama assures Volta Region
.
His statement, delivered during a recent visit to the region, came after tensions rose due to allegations of exclusion within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region.
“I also recognize the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good. Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked,” Mahama said, addressing the concerns of his audience.
He went on to explain that the appointment process would be guided by key principles: “Appointments will be guided by principles of merit, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and availability to serve.”
The assurance from Mahama comes at a critical time, following an incident where the NDC office in Ho was reportedly vandalized by individuals dissatisfied with what they perceived as the region’s exclusion from key roles within the party.
This act of vandalism highlighted the frustrations of many in the Volta Region who felt their contributions to the NDC and to Ghana’s democratic progress had been overlooked for too long.
In his address, Mahama acknowledged the historic neglect of the Volta Region, which has long been a stronghold of the NDC.
“The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises, but as I said, I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration,” he pledged.
