Unemployed woman jailed for stealing mobile phone, cash

The Tarkwa District Court One has sentenced Gifty Awuah, an unemployed woman to two months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing an amount of GH¢1,200 and a mobile phone valued at GH¢1,100.

She pleaded guilty and was convicted on her own plea

Prosecuting Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh told the court presided over by Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah that Elizabeth Badu, the complainant was unemployed and a resident of Wassa Agona, while Awuah lived at Dompim Pepesa, both in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

On November 9, 2024, at about 1400 hours, Awuah went to the complainant’s house and requested to see one Nana Nkansah, the complainant’s husband.

The complainant told Awuah the husband was not available, and she pretended to be leaving, but returned and hurriedly entered the complainant’s room, stole the items mentioned and left.

Sergeant Assan-Donkoh informed the court that on November 11, 2024, Awuah was nabbed and sent to the police station where she confessed to the crime in her investigation caution statement.
