Unemployed man sentenced to six years hard labour for stealing motorbike

.
An unemployed man, Wisdom Amewuame, has been sentenced to six years of hard labour by the Jasikan Circuit Court after he was found guilty of unlawfully entering a residence and stealing a motorbike in Kwamekrom.

A report by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that Amewuame pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.

The court, presided over by Mr. Lambert Keriga, heard that the convict had recently been released from prison for a similar offence.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo, who prosecuted the case, urged the court to hand down a firm sentence, citing Amewuame’s repeated criminal behaviour.

Amewuame is said to have been priorly convicted for a similar offence, further influencing the court’s decision to impose a strict sentence.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, a farmer from Kwamekrom, left home with his family on December 31, 2024, to attend a church service.

Upon returning the following morning, he discovered that his Sanya-branded motorbike, with registration number M-17-VR 1608, had been stolen.

A search within the community led to the discovery of the motorbike, which had been damaged and abandoned in a nearby bush.

The complainant then reported the theft to the Kwamekrom Police, leading to investigations into the matter.

Police later tracked Amewuame to his hideout in Bodada, near Jasikan, where he was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted to committing the crime.

The court, upon conviction, also ordered that the recovered motorbike be returned to its rightful owner.
