During an appearance on TV3 on Saturday, February 8, 2025, Ablakwa revealed that Afenyo-Markin had reached out to him for a brief private conversation during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah, to address concerns he (Ablakwa) had raised about the Minority Leader during an NDC caucus meeting.
Ablakwa further mentioned that Afenyo-Markin expressed his displeasure over remarks he had made during the NDC caucus meeting, accusing him of using the vetting process to settle personal scores—an action that Ablakwa strongly disapproved of.
“He called me, I didn’t go and see him and that is a fact. Hon. Afenyo-Markin called me during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah that he had heard everything I said about him at our caucus meeting and wanted to know why because he knows I am a former senior member of the Appointments Committee,” he said.
However, Ablakwa rubbished earlier claims by the Minority Leader that there had been an arrangement to make concessions for him to have a smooth vetting process and be easily approved by a consensus.
He added that he had never made any such requests for a lenient vetting process.
“I told him that he goes overboard with his attempt to settle personal scores and personal attacks and that we didn’t see other Minority leaders do that. He even said I was looking good and liked my suit. That was the discussion. There was no agreement and at no point did I ask for a soft vetting,” he disclosed.
His comments follow a claim by Afenyo-Markin during an interview on Channel One that Ablakwa reached out to him ahead of his vetting and agreed to make concessions relative to his criticism and exposé of some supposed corrupt activities in the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government.
