Afenyo-Markin walks out on Appointment Committee during Ayine vetting

.
Drama unfolded during the vetting of Attorney General-designate Dr. Dominic Ayine before Parliament’s Appointments Committee as Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin walked out of the proceedings.

The incident on Monday, January 13, was triggered by a question from Suame MP John Darko regarding a potential conflict of interest involving Dr. Ayine’s law firm.

The Chairman believes the nominee had previously addressed the issue, but Mr. Darko insisted on revisiting it.

The Committee Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, however, ruled the question out of order, sparking a heated exchange.

Mr. Darko accused the Chairman of being unfair, claiming his questions were being suppressed.

The Ranking Member on the Committee, Mr Afenyo-Markin sided with Mr. Darko and accused the Chairman of bias against NPP members.

Tensions escalated when the Chairman stood his ground, refusing to reverse his decision. In protest, Afenyo-Markin walked out of the session, followed by another committee member.

The disruption underscores growing tensions in the parliamentary vetting process, with accusations of partisanship clouding the proceedings.
