Dafeamekpor narrates how his 8-bedroom house was demolished under Akufo-Addo’s government

.
The Member of Parliament (MP) of South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has opened up about how his property - an 8-bedroom apartment at Adenta, in the Greater Accra Region, was destroyed under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the Good Morning Ghana programme on January 16, 2024, Dafeamekpor said that in just one day, the 8-bedroom house he had used all his sweat to build was destroyed.

He said that he took the government to court, and after eight years, the government has neither been able to prove that his structure was illegal nor that the land it was built on was not his.

He added that the military men and the military vehicle that transported them to destroy his house have been disowned by the army.

“In 2017, I acquired land from chiefs of Adenta that I had done legal work for, and they assigned it to me, properly registered. As a young man in the law, I garnered all the resources I could, put up my eight-bedroom house.

“Just one night, one dawn, State Housing came with the support of the police and the military to raze it down and some of my neighbours under the pretext that it was state land. We've been in court since. They can't prove their case for eight years. They've destroyed my property,” he narrated.

He added, “They brought a military vehicle occupied by about seven military men with guns and policemen to cordon off the area before they carried out the demolishing. I took evidence. I took a video of the vehicle's number plate. I contacted the military; they said they didn't know that vehicle. It is not part of their fleet of vehicles. They don't know these men. But they came in full military regalia.”

The South Dayi legislator made these remarks while rebutting criticism of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) preparatory committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama.

He said that the committee is at least investigating instances of state capture and corruption, unlike the Akufo-Addo government, where people were just attacked, and their properties taken based on mere suspicions.

“They are even fortunate that this president has given an official stamp and constituted a committee of this nature to handle the issues in the manner they are doing… The president (Akufo-Addo) didn't set up ORAL at the time. They just came in a gestapo manner.

“Other persons suffered. People were in vehicles in traffic and they were taken out of their vehicles, and the vehicles taken away from them till today. You are fortunate to have ORAL that is being decent about demand for information. Under your government, you were taking property from people that you suspected were government in traffic. People have been quiet. So, this criticism is a very lame one,” he stated.
