.
Asanteman celebrated its first Akwasidae Festival for 2025 on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

The event was graced by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, along with his paramount chiefs, queen mothers, and other sub-chiefs.

The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, also attended the occasion, accompanied by leading figures of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, COP Kofi Boakye, and Kojo Bonsu, among others.

As usual, the beautiful culture of the people of Asanteman and other cultures from across Ghana was on full display for the world to witness. The dancing, drumming, singing, and dressing at the event were a sight to behold.

The Asantehene once again did not disappoint. The king arrived majestically at Akwasidae, seated on a palanquin.

He could be seen displaying some wonderful dance moves while seated on the palanquin, while his subjects and attendees cheered him on.

President Mahama arrived at the event in a beautiful Adaga with meaningful Adinkra symbols printed on the chest region.

In his remarks at the event, Mahama thanked the Asantehene and the people of Asanteman for their support and pledged to complete all projects in the region that had been neglected by the previous government.

One of the most beautiful moments at the event was when the president went to greet the Asantehene. The two men could be seen exchanging pleasantries with broad smiles on their faces.

About the Akwasidae:

The Akwasidae Festival is a vibrant celebration held by the Ashanti people in Ghana. It occurs every six weeks on a Sunday, according to the Asante calendar.

The festival is deeply rooted in ancestral reverence and remembrance, honouring past kings and noble feats.

It is a time when the Asantehene (the king of Asante), sub-kings, and subjects come together at Manhyia in Kumasi to celebrate the Golden Stool, a symbol of the kingdom's unity and cultural heritage.

During Akwasidae, the community engages in drumming, dancing, and singing to honour their ancestors and lesser gods, known as abosom.

It is a day of communal gathering, vibrant attire, and cultural expression that underscores the Ashanti people's connection to their past and their ongoing cultural legacy.
