A leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Dr. Ayew Afriye, has hinted at the New Patriotic Party presenting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2028 election.

He argues that, comparatively, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the only candidate who has marketed himself very well.

To him, from data gathered after the 2024 election, it was clear that people didn’t go out to vote because of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and not because they did not like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Therefore, the NPP does not have to change Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the next election.

“NPP is still going to present Dr. Bawumia again. NPP will definitely present Bawumia again. But why would you want to change Bawumia? John Mahama lost by a huge margin, but people suggested he needed to be brought back to contest because he had marketed himself well. I can say the same for Dr. Bawumia. In my opinion, the NPP must present Dr. Bawumia because he is well-marketed.

In our democracy, people try several times before they win elections. You can site Kufuor, Mills and even Akufo-Addo; they contested three times before they won the elections,” he said on Oyerepa TV.
