Only 3 Agenda 111 projects completed - Felix Kwakye Ofosu

.
The Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has raised concerns about the ongoing Agenda 111 hospital project.

According to him, the initiative, launched by the previous administration, has seen limited progress, with only three out of the planned hospitals completed.

He said this was discovered during the transition process.

“If you look at this sector, there are significant challenges as we speak. The Agenda 111, which was heavily promoted by the previous government during the transition meetings, has only seen three projects completed. Even those, however, are not fully operational,” Ofosu Kwakye stated in an interview on TV3 on January 25, 2025.

He added, “Last week, they couldn’t admit patients. The President mentioned that 70 facilities are still not operational, and as of today, none of them are in a position to admit patients.”

He further disclosed that completing the remaining projects will require a substantial $1.4 billion (approximately 30 billion Ghana cedis), creating a huge financial burden for the government.

“We discovered that it will take a staggering $1.4 billion, nearly 30 billion Ghana cedis, to complete these projects,” Kwakye said.

This responsibility will now fall on the shoulders of Hon. Akandoh, the newly appointed health official, who must strategise on how to address this critical issue.

Also, he highlighted the ongoing challenges with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), particularly the habitual non-release of funds.

With an estimated 8 to 10 million subscribers relying on the scheme for healthcare access, he said the pressure is on Hon. Akandoh to find solutions to ensure its continued effectiveness.

“So, it is now the responsibility of Hon. Akandoh, when he takes office, to figure out how to manage this situation. There's also the issue of NHIS, which suffers from chronic non-release of funds. With 8 to 10 million subscribers demanding healthcare, he has to address this issue as well,” Kwakye emphasised.
