Ken Ofori-Atta sues National Security Operatives over alleged raid on his residence
.
The writ, filed at the Accra High Court on Monday, March 10, is based on an incident on February 11, 2025, during which individuals believed to be National Security operatives allegedly raided Mr Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence in Accra.
The suit names two senior police officers, DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, as defendants.
In his statement of claim, Mr Ofori-Atta contends that the raid was carried out without prior notice or legal justification.
He stated that the raiding team did not produce any form of warrant nor indicate to his domestic staff the basis for the search but warned them to desist from using mobile phones throughout the entire period of the unauthorised operation.
He further asserts that the raid left his domestic staff traumatised, causing them to suffer varying degrees of severe shock.
The former Finance Minister also stated that neither the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), the Chief of Defence Staff, nor the Inspector General of Police has confirmed whether the operatives acted under their directives.
He added that as a result of the incident, he has suffered great anxiety and distress, leading to significant loss and damage.
Mr Ofori-Atta is asking the court to declare that the entry and search of his residence constituted trespass and a breach of his right to privacy.
He is also seeking damages for trespass and breach of privacy, as well as a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants or their agents from conducting any similar operation against him in the future.
The lawsuit is expected to test the limits of security operations regarding the rights of private citizens, especially former public officials.
