Human trafficking conviction: Bella sentenced, fugitive still on the run
.
This comes after 22-year-old Nicky Isabella, aka Bella, was sentenced to five years in prison for her role in the trafficking operation.
Bella was found guilty of conspiracy and two counts of human trafficking under the Human Trafficking Act, 2005.
She was convicted for luring two young Nigerian women into the country under the false pretense of securing jobs, only to force them into prostitution.
The court considered Bella’s plea for mercy and her status as a first-time offender but sentenced her to five years for each of the charges, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The court’s decision followed a detailed investigation led by the police, which uncovered evidence of the victims being manipulated and coerced into prostitution, including threats and control tactics.
Despite her mitigation plea, Bella’s conviction serves as a deterrent to others involved in similar illegal activities.
The prosecution, led by ASP Isaac Babayi, successfully presented the case, which led to Bella’s sentencing.
As part of the ongoing case, authorities are also seeking to apprehend Nelly, an accomplice who remains at large.
