Stop ‘tot-tot’ appointments; you said you were ready to govern – Afenyo-Markin to Mahama
.
His remarks came after the Speaker of Parliament announced the President’s nomination of three Minister-designates for vetting by the Appointments Committee.
On Thursday, January 9, President Mahama nominated Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister-designate, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate.
Addressing Parliament, Afenyo-Markin argued that a government committed to delivering a “24-hour economy” should have a comprehensive list of ministerial appointments ready, rather than making piecemeal nominations.
He stressed that this approach could delay critical governance processes and create uncertainty in key sectors.
“When the names were read out by Mr Speaker he read out only three names. The Finance Minister Designate, the Energy Minister Designate and the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice Designate.
“Mr Speaker this ‘tot-tot-tot-tot’ appointment s is unacceptable. Mr Speaker this is a government that promised a 24-hour economy in opposition. They told us they were ready for government,” he said.
