According to him, his preference stems from the fact that he has held several ministerial roles in the past and has been part of the executive.
Speaking on the subject, he revealed that the idea of leading the caucus was suggested to him even before the 2024 elections, and it was a proposal he seriously considered.
“The suggestion for me to lead came before the election. Even before the election, I was approached by some people. If you ask some of the members of the current minority caucus when they were even in the majority, they kept walking up to me, saying they had heard that, after the election, I would lead the caucus. I told them I didn’t know, but I had heard the same,” he explained.
He added, “So even before the president thought about his ministers and who would go where, to tell you the truth, I had been approached and seriously considered leading. The reason I prefer leading the caucus is because I have been in the executive. I have served as a presidential spokesperson and been a deputy minister and minister in several ministries. The one job I have not done is to lead the caucus.”
Addressing suggestions that he should become the Attorney General,
“It is something that I have never been interested in. I have never been interested,” he reiterated.
