Nana Akomea defends President Mahama over ‘tot tot’ appointment

.
Nana Akomea, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed support for President John Dramani Mahama's appointments.

This comes amid criticism from some Ghanaians and political actors, including the NPP, who have accused President Mahama of releasing the list of ministers in bits instead of all at once.

However, Nana Akomea, in an interview with Peace FM, noted that this approach has been used by past governments as well, although he's unsure of the reasoning behind it.

He noted that releasing the entire list at once would have been ideal, but acknowledged that there might be valid reasons for the delay.

The Vice Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team also applauded the president's appointment of the finance minister, especially given the current economic instability.

Additionally, he expressed enthusiasm for the president's choice of energy minister, recognizing that Ghana's energy sector is in disarray and that this appointment is a step in the right direction.

He said: “Regarding the 'tot tot' appointments people are talking about, you know that President Mahama said his full list would be ready in two weeks. If he had been able to release the entire list, it would have been good, but there may be a reason for the delay. Of course, someone must be appointed immediately for the finance ministry.

"...And then, especially the energy ministry, as we all know there are issues with the sector because we owe the IPPs. It's not stable, so the energy minister is equally important, just as the finance minister.

"I do not remember any government that released all its ministers and ministries as soon as possible, so I think it's in the right direction, although I do not know why they do that," he said on Peace FM.
