If Afenyo-Markin is being cheered by NPP to sacrifice himself, NDC will sacrifice him - Gbande

.
The newly appointed Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has urged the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to reflect on his posture and leadership style, warning that he risks being sacrificed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Member of Parliament for Effutu has come under heavy criticism from a section of the public, who accuse him of adopting a hawkish style and unnecessarily obstructing government business in Parliament.

His alleged incitement of chaos during the vetting of ministerial nominees, which led to the destruction of some properties in the ensuing melee, has been widely condemned.

Speaking on UTV, Mustapha Gbande, who is also the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), warned that if the NPP fails to check Afenyo-Markin's conduct, he risks falling on his own sword, and the NDC will not prevent that from happening.

"I think that the Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, should reflect on his posture, his style, and how he intends to lead the Minority. I am just giving him free advice. Yes, the party executives will show solidarity, but if you are misbehaving—for want of a better word—and you are being cheered, you will be singled out. And when you are singled out, everybody else will take cover. Afenyo-Markin has a lot of scandals; there are things we will expose, and he will find himself in trouble. So if he is being encouraged by party leadership to sacrifice himself, we will sacrifice him. I don't threaten people; I am just stating the facts."

Gbande alleged that Afenyo-Markin has played a role in depleting the public purse and warned that the government may soon take action against him.

"He should know that if we begin to pursue him, he will be in trouble. Afenyo-Markin must understand that if he misbehaves and we are pushed to act, he will not be the only one affected—it will have broader consequences. The Minority group should not assume that the NDC is passive or naïve. Wisdom is always applied in governing a country."
