In a video posted on X by Graphiconline on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the lawmaker, dressed in an all-white kaftan and smiling over the news, was seen celebrating his appointment.
His security detail, in a show of respect and celebration, fired about seven rounds of gunshots into the air before proceeding to shake hands and congratulate him.
The video also captured the moment when a middle-aged man, not in uniform, gave the lawmaker a warm hug.
Critics, however, have criticised the incident, raising concerns about safety and the potential risks associated with firing gunshots in such a manner.
Muntaka, a former Minority Chief Whip, was part of 14 Members of Parliament nominated in Mahama’s third batch of ministerial appointments.
The new nominees include the Member of Parliament of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and the Member of Parliament of Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George.
Other nominees are former communication minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Deputy Majority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah; and MP of Buem, Kofi Adams.
The positions they have been nominated to are the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations respectively.
